THE LONGEST WORD

Although some languages have longer words, English does have a number of words which use a lot of letters.

The longest word in the Oxford English Dictionary is a 45-letter word for a lung disease: Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis.

The longest one-syllable English words are nine letters long: scratched, stretched, scrounged, scrunched and strengths.

What about in Portuguese?

Pneumoultramicroscopicossilicovulcanoconiótico is the longest one. It is 46-letters and it means a person who is affected by that same disease up above. You can find this word in Portuguese Language Dictionary Houaiss, p. 2242, from 2001.

Are you able to imagine when the doctor tell a person:
“You have a rare illness. You were affected by Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis.”
“Hammmmmm"

SEX SHOP SUSPECT NABBED

THIS is the man accused of breaking into an adult shop and having sex with blow-up dolls in a bizarre series of alleged crimes in Cairns that made international headlines.
His leg in a cast, the 23-year-old limped from the Cairns watch-house late yesterday afternoon, just hours after police arrested him.
Police have not released his name.
He was charged with breaking into businesses in the CBD, including the Laneway Adult Shop off Spence St three times in the past month.
The man allegedly smashed his way into the shop, had sex with blow-up dolls and discarded them in an alley.
He is also accused of breaking into the Sapphire Bar by smashing a hole near the top of the roof and dropping 15m to the floor.
The hunt for the suspect ended yesterday when he was detained at his home and taken to Cairns police station where he was questioned and charged.
"Following intelligence-based inquiries, we attended a Manunda address and made an arrest," acting Det Sen-Sgt Jason Chetham said.
Outside the watch-house, the man said he had been speaking to police about property offences from "years ago".
He was charged with four counts each of enter premises with intent and one count of attempted break-in.
The man has been granted bail to appear in Cairns Magistrates' Court early next month.
The alleged crimes, revealed by The Cairns Post earlier this month, made headlines across the world, with dozens of newspapers and blogs as far away as the UK, US, Canada, India and Jamaica featuring the story.
On two occasions, a doll named "Jungle Jane" was allegedly stolen from the Laneway Adult Shop.
The shop's owner said the alleged offender had a habit of cleaning up the mess he had made at his premises.

This man could be a good adviser.
Why don’t the shop’s owners hire him?
“We have many kinds of blow-up dolls. Soft tits, big ass… However, this is my favorite one, you will not regret.”
"Thank you"

IT SEEMS TO BE EASY

The 67-year-old Kalamazoo retiree has amassed 27 college degrees since 1963, and he's not done yet.
He started with a bachelor's degree in religious education at William Tyndale College in Detroit. That led to a master's degree in theology at Dallas Theological Seminary.
Since then, he has earned two associate's degrees, 19 master's degrees, three specialist's degrees and one doctoral degree.
He's currently pursuing two master's degrees at Grand Valley State University, one in health administration and the other in special-education administration.
Nicholson has 10 master's degrees, a specialist's degree and a doctorate from Western Michigan University, which the registrar's office reported is the most degrees awarded to any one person in the school's history.
The Guinness Book of World Records does not include a category for most college degrees earned by one person.
"He's intrinsically motivated; he doesn't brag about what he's doing; he just keeps plodding ahead," Tom Carey, professor and chairman of the WMU management department, said of Nicholson.
Raised by a mother with a high school education and a father who had to drop out of school very young to work, Nicholson said he was taught to believe in the importance of education. Many of his degrees relate to teaching. He was a substitute teacher for about 16 years before retiring in 2003.
He and his wife, Sharon, have lived in Kalamazoo since 1980. He worked as a parking-meter attendant at WMU for 11 years and took advantage of the tuition discount to earn several of his master's degrees there.
"I enjoy learning as a means of independence," Nicholson said. "I have academic freedom; I can study or do whatever I want to do."
Although he's not an "A" student, he still is motivated to learn something new that is interesting and worthy of exploration.
"I decided to pursue it rather than let it go by," he said. "I just wanted to learn more about the things that were coming my way."
Sharon Nicholson has earned seven degrees. She said she was inspired by her husband, and she appreciates the tuition discount she receives as a 30-year employee of WMU.
"There were times when I just wanted to take classes, but he encouraged me to go on and get degrees," she said.
Michael Nicholson said he'll keep pursuing higher education as long as he can.
"I find that the intellectual stimulation and the acquaintances that I have at the intellectual level make it really worthwhile," he said.

That’s quite amazing!

This guy has 27 college degrees – twenty seven college degrees –, while I’m still pursuing my first one. It really seems to be easy to him, but to me, it doesn’t. I’m sure he is putting his certificates on the bathroom wall.

Hey man, you’re crazy!!!

LEAVE ME ALONE

“Leave me alone!” will not be the correct expression used by people who support the idea that studying with a group is better than studying alone. Such people have their reasons for that matter. They can say that studying with a group you can share their acquirements. Doubts that one person has, another one can solve.

On the other hand, there are people who prefer to study alone. They have many reasons about their preference. They rather study alone because no one will disturb them, those people like silence. Besides, it is almost impossible to keep a group organized. They tell jokes, gossips and so on. Studying by yourself, you can do many things that certainly would bother others: to turn your media on, to sing or to whistle that song as well.

Particularly, I support both opinions, but I prefer the second one. When you are alone, you can keep yourself much more concentrated. Comprehension will get better. You can lay on your bed, to stop studying, watch some TV and turn studying. However, studying with a group there is a positive aspect: your doubts will be better elucidated.

Because of this, I give my opinion to you: study alone and the left doubts you clear them up with a group.

DO OR NOT TO DO

Factory Vase

Nowadays, some may support the idea that building a factory near our community can helps to improve living standard of people and to drop the unemployment rate. It will also give a good chance for the development of other business in our community such as shops, theatres and restaurants. The quality of life will improve significantly.

But others have a negative attitude. They believe that building a factory will harm our environment. The factory produces a lot of waste that it will be thrown away into our rivers. The air will be polluted by poisonous gases. In consequence, our health will be seriously affected. Another disadvantage: it will disturb the quiescence of our community.

Of course, there are some advantages and disadvantages in building a factory in our community. I support the idea that it must be done. My arguments for this point are listed as follows:
First, it will increase job’s opportunity. For example: a Hydro plant, that it will be built in Porto Velho – Rondônia, is expected to employ 15,000 of people. In doing so, people will improve their quality of life, that it means a better education for their sons. It’s all a matter of opportunity.

Second, protecting environment organizations do not permit the people to fish or to hunt. What can they do if they can not fish or hunt? Either they will go hungry or they will look for something “easer”.

Taking into account of all these factors, we may reach the conclusion that we need to progress, even it could affect our daily life.
